A course in: Listening with Empathy Responding with Effectiveness Affirming the Dignity of the Other
People often think "Communicating with Compassion" is the same as being "nice" or "caring." It's NOT!
Communicating With Compassion Course Descriptions
Enjoy taking your class from the comfort of your office or home by phone conference.
Level One (10 sessions 1 hr/wk, plus one individual phone session with Uzi)
The essence of all good communication consists of two components, "skills" and a "way of being." In this course you will learn what empathy is and skills of expressing it. Four distinct empathy skills, the empathic "way of being," and four listening mistakes to avoid are presented in the first half of the course as the "Art of Listening."
The ability to give feedback in a positive, constructive way is a skill. Six steps of how to give advice and feedback with effectiveness and compassion are presented in the second half of the course.
A key component of this course is listening and responding in ways that affirm the dignity of the other and avoid shame. Uzi models this dignity in his interaction with participants throughout the course. In addition, three specific dignity-affirming perspectives are taught.
To develop the skills, each class session has role-play, allowing participants to integrate content with immediate application. Uzi guides and coaches participants in developing their skills.

All About Advice & Dignity (6 sessions 1hr/wk)
Giving good advice is a great gift. Sometimes our intentions are misunderstood because of the way we offer it. The ability to give advice in a positive, constructive way is an art.
"All About Advice & Dignity" (the second half of Level One) presents six steps for offering feedback with effectiveness and compassion. In addition, you will learn three perspectives for listening and responding in ways that affirm the dignity of the other and avoid shame.
As in all Communicating with Compassion courses, you will practice and expand you skills through role-play, with Uzi guiding and coaching you.
This course can serve as a refresher for graduates of Level One who want to take their skills to the next level without starting at the beginning, and for graduates of All About Listening.

As always, half of each session will be role-play, with Uzi guiding and coaching. The difference is that all the participants of Level Two have attended two other courses, and the quality of the role-play reflects that.
Pre-requisites: Completion of Level One and one other course (e.g., repeating Level One; Skills Practice; All About Listening; or All About Advice & Dignity).
